Family Health Ministries 2017 Gala, “Oh Baby”

May 16, 2017

On April 22, Family Health Ministries hosted our 10th annual Gala and silent auction, to support the Carmelle Voltaire Women’s Health Center in Tom Gato, Haiti.  The Gala raised $65,000, making this our highest grossing event to date!  The majority of funds were raised through event sponsorships, donations, ticket sales, and silent auction.  The wine-pull raised $2,150.

Not only did this year’s gala bring financial success, but more than 150 people were able to participate. Attendees enjoyed electronic bidding on our silent auction items and a terrific performance by the EG Peters Band.  Soigné Catering prepared a wonderful dinner.

We’d like to extend a big thanks to Diane Cobb, who provided an assortment of cakes for dessert, to Jean and Carrie Clerie for donating all of the wine and beer for the evening, and to Karlene Turrentine for crafting all of our lovely centerpieces.  Another special thank you goes out to American Party Rentals, who, for many years, have donated the supplies that make this event possible.

This year’s most popular items included a sterling silver necklace by Atelier N Fine Jewelry, a Montreat mountain cottage retreat donated by Katherine and Toby Savage, and several pieces of Haitian art donated by Jean and Russ Hall, and Sam and Kay Leaman.  The most memorable part of the evening was Kathy and David Walmer’s presentation, during which they spoke of Janet Portzer’s work at FHM and dedicated the educational space at the Carmelle Voltaire Women’s Health Center in her memory.

We want to, again, extend our sincerest thanks for everyone who sponsored, donated to, and attended the event.  Your gifts made our 2017 Gala a tremendous success!
