Announcing the Launch of the Pritts-Olive Surgical Suite Campaign

Dear Friends,

Family Health Ministries is excited to be launching the campaign to raise $150,000 to build the Pritts-Olive Surgical Suite at the Carmelle Voltaire Women’s Health Center (CVWHC) in Tom Gato, Haiti. Our goal is to get “everyone that we know” to contribute to this effort. One hundred percent participation is more important than the amount. Due to a generous donation, your gift will be matched dollar for dollar up to $50,000.00!

Why donate

We (David & Kathy) & FHM have been actively engaged with the Fondwa community for over 25 years and, they have loved us as much as we have loved them. As our friend, we are eager to involve you in our effort to bring this pivotal resource to the women’s center. We know that this will not be our last campaign because we have a long-term vision for a “center of excellence” for women’s care at Fondwa/Tom Gato. As they say, “Deye mon, gen mon,” which translates as “Beyond this mountain there are more mountains.”

Also, this is a wonderful opportunity to recognize and honor two dear friends, Elizabeth Pritts and Dave Olive. If you do not know them, let us introduce you. Elizabeth and Dave adopted two girls from the Fatima orphanage, and they have been avid supporters of Fondwa and FHM ever since. Tragically, Dave lost a long battle to cancer recently, and Dave & Elizabeth asked for support in his memory to go to the Carmelle Voltaire Women’s Center. As a result, we already have $35,000 to start the campaign. Elizabeth and Dave are both physicians, as well as both being recognized as pioneers in surgical care among women’s health professionals in the United States. It seems fitting that we will be able to remember their love for Sister Carmelle and the Community of Fondwa by building a surgical suite in their honor.

If you are not already aware, the Carmelle Voltaire Women’s Center is the only women’s healthcare facility between Leogane & Jacmel, and it offers many preventative health care services including HPV testing and prenatal care. The midwives began delivering babies at the Carmelle Voltaire Women’s Center in March of 2020 and our latest dilemma is that women in labor needing C-sections must leave the women’s center and travel 45 minutes to either Jacmel or Leogane. As you might expect, this is a remarkably challenging and risky time to take a 45-minute drive through the winding roads of the Haitian mountains.

What to donate

Please give something in addition to what you planned to give to FHM this year. The core programs still need to be supported. No amount is too small (or too big). You will know that you are making a huge difference in our lives and in the lives of the women in this community. Also, once you donate to this or other needs at the Carmelle Voltaire Women’s Center, you will become a lifelong member of the CVWHC family.

We hope that you will also help us grow our family by telling your friends about this effort and help us meet our current goal of raising $150,000 this year. Click here for more information.

In love and partnership,

David & Kathy Walmer
