As we watch the construction progress on the new Carmelle Voltaire Women’s Health Center in Tom Gato, Haiti, we, at Family Health Ministries (FHM), are filled with joyful anticipation. After many starts and stops, this project is finally becoming a reality as day by day, the site takes form and the building grows skyward to what will soon be a landmark in the Fondwa community.  The women’s health and birthing center will provide healthcare and education to women in a rural, mountainous region of Haiti where medical care currently is non-existent. Skilled Haitian birth attendants will work along side trained midwives to support the health and well-being of mothers and their children. Building Goodness Foundation has begun taking construction teams to work on the site along side the local Haitian construction team and progress is moving rapidly now.  The health center will be operational by December 2015 and as we move toward the opening date, our excitement is similar to that of an expectant mother, dreaming of the birth of her child.

Dr. David Walmer, FHM Founder and Chairman of the FHM Board says “Building Goodness Foundation has given us a real incentive to accelerate our fund raising efforts for the Surgical Center we have been planning to build in Leogane.  Some women who are laboring in Tom Gato are going to need C-sections and it is important that we are able to care for them until their babies are safely delivered.” The completion of both these medical centers in rural Haiti will provide life-saving services for the women of this area.
