At the end of January 2025, Kathy Walmer will be retiring from her role as FHM’s Executive Director, where she has served faithfully and demonstrated exceptional leadership for over 20 years. We are all lamenting the end of this era at FHM.
We are excited to introduce you to FHM’s next Executive Director, Elizabeth Kurtgeri who joined our staff on January 6, 2025. Kathy led the search committee, and we are delighted with the outcome.
Elizabeth is not new to either FHM or Haiti. In 2016-2017, she traveled to Haiti twice with a friend where she worked with 150 school age children and developed a love for the Haitian people. She subsequently traveled to Peru where she participated in a cervical cancer prevention program. Those experiences stimulated an interest in global health. Elizabeth completed a Bachelor of Science degree in global health at Furman and then went on to get her master’s in global public health at George Mason. While at George Mason, Elizabeth was introduced to FHM as she did an internship with Kathy where she helped FHM develop evidence-based maternal and newborn care programs at the Carmelle Voltaire Women’s Health Center. After her internship, she continued her relationship with FHM by volunteering on the gala committee. After graduating and while searching for an opportunity in the global health arena, Elizabeth took a job as the resource development coordinator for the Boys & Girls Club in Durham, NC. In this role she has been honing her skills in fundraising and public speaking. We were delighted to see Elizabeth’s name in the list of applicants when we posted the position and are delighted to welcome her back to the FHM family.
