We have a day for giving thanks. We have two for getting deals. Now, we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give financially. Join FHM and be part of a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity.
The United Methodist Church worldwide recognizes Giving Tuesday as part of the international movement to extend the spirit of giving thanks into the Advent season. It offers an opportunity to start off the holiday season by giving instead of getting by supporting organizations that are transforming the world. Charitable projects are listed in The Advance. 100% of all funds raised for Advance projects goes to the project.
Through The Advance projects, FHM is changing lives in Haiti. Our efforts bring about and ensure families have access to the health services they need. This effort, supported through our office in Durham, is primarily Haitian run. For this reason, we are better able to meet the needs of the community and ensure that the voices within the community we work in are being heard.
Our Advance Project is The Leogane Family Surgical Center. FHM is working to reduce the burden of maternal death by providing much needed medical care, screening and health care education to the Haitian community. The Leogane Family Surgical Center will not only provide cervical cancer screening, but also cervical cancer treatment options and obstetrical and gynecological surgeries. It will also be a vital resource for global health research and shared health worker training between visit American medical teams and Haitian staff.
